Comprehensive overview of psychopathology as a clinical science discipline. Emphasizes empirical and theoretical models of mental disorders, including their epidemiology, genetic and neurobiological underpinnings, cognitive and affective mechanisms, and environmental and cultural risk factors. Major disorder domains (e.g., mood, anxiety, trauma-related, psychotic, substance use, externalizing, and personality pathology) are examined primarily in adulthood, with developmental and lifespan considerations integrated throughout. Readings focus on primary research literature, with attention to comorbidity, heterogeneity, and dimensional nosology frameworks (e.g., HiTOP, RDoC) alongside traditional DSM/ICD classification systems. Historical and cultural perspectives on psychopathology are also addressed. 3 credit hours.
