The objective of this course is to provide an economic perspective on a variety of topics relevant to professionals working in the energy industry. Topics include the effects of competition and market power, the theory of externalities, and government regulation of energy markets. Through case studies and real-world examples, students will explore the economic and environmental impacts of different policies, including carbon pricing, emissions trading, energy efficiency standards, and renewable energy mandates. Overall, this course aims to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of energy economics and policies aimed at balancing the interaction between energy market activity and the environment. 3 credit hours.
