Introductory Seismology

School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics
This course covers the fundamentals of seismology and seismic wave propagation. An introduction to the theory of wave propagation in acoustic, elastic, anelastic and anisotropic medium, and observational methods in seismology applicable to the deep planetary structure of the Earth as well as petroleum deposits in the crust. The theory of earthquakes and methods for retrieving seismic source information will also be addressed. Class projects will emphasize the use of seismic data from public databases and processing using python packages. 3 credit hours.
