Minerals and Metals for Sustainability
GEOS 5318
School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics
Modern civilization depends on all 92 elements in the periodic table, and most of these are extracted from mineral deposits. The transition to a green economy is greatly increasing our need for some of these elements, like Li, Co, Cu, Ni, and the REE. This course provides an overview of how the elements formed, how these are concentrated in different types of mineral deposits, how these deposits formed, and some of the ways in which we use different elements today. 3 credit hours.
Offering Frequency: Each year
