Cellular Microbiology
BIOL 4310
School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics
This course examines the pathogenesis of infectious diseases, focusing on host cell properties. It introduces human pathogens, their virulence, and the evolutionary interactions between pathogens and host cells. Topics include bacterial toxins, virus infections, microbial invasion, intracellular parasitism, and pathogen-induced cell death. The course also covers host defense mechanisms, inflammation, sepsis, and advances in microbial genomics, including the human microbiome, vaccines, and anti-infectives. It aims to enhance knowledge in cell biology, medical microbiology, and immunology, with clinical applications in parasitology and infectious disease control. 3 credit hours.
