It introduces human pathogens, their virulence, and the evolutionary interactions between pathogens and host cells. Topics include bacterial toxins, virus infections, microbial invasion, intracellular parasitism, and pathogen-induced cell death. The course also covers host defense mechanisms, inflammation, sepsis, and advances in microbial genomics, including the human microbiome, vaccines, and anti-infectives.
